Dental Bridges
A dental bridge, as the name suggests, connects two teeth without blocking or attaching to the underlying gums. It contains a false tooth held in position by two or more adjacent teeth.
Benefits of a dental bridge:
Having a missing tooth or teeth can have a variety of effects on you. A dental bridge can take care of those modifications, such as:
- Keeping your remaining teeth from shifting from their original position.
- Restoring your smile
- The regaining of chewing proficiency
- Regaining your voice and articulation
- Preserving the contour of your face
- To properly distribute the force when you chew, adjust your bite.

Various kinds of dental bridges exist:
Dental bridges come in four basic varieties:
- Traditional
- Cantilever
- Maryland
- Implant-supported
- Traditional or conventional dental bridges are made of, porcelain-fused to metal or ceramic. They connect adjacent teeth thereby replacing the missing teeth in-between. These traditional bridges are cemented onto the teeth and are long lasting. The dummy tooth is called a pontic and the adjacent teeth are called retainers.
- Cantilever dental bridges are similar to traditional bridges; only one tooth is capped that serves as the anchor for the dummy tooth (pontic). You only need one healthy tooth next to the gap left by the missing tooth to support a cantilever bridge.
- A Maryland bridge uses a framework of either metal or porcelain that is bonded onto the backs of the adjacent teeth. Hence this type of bridge replaces missing teeth without involving damage to the adjacent teeth.
- Implant-supported bridges use dental implants in the place of natural teeth to rehabilitate missing species. The bridge has a pontic suspended between two implant-supported crowns.

Oral hygiene with a dental bridge:
A dental bridge makes it difficult to floss, so brushing twice daily is important. Use adjuncts like mouthwashes and water flossers to prevent gum diseases.
The appointments for the fabrication of dental bridge include:
- 1st Appointment : examination, diagnosis and treatment planning. The necessary x-rays are advised.
- 2nd Appointment 2: the adjacent teeth are prepared and the measurements are recorded Temporary Bridge will be placed
- 3rd appointment: the bridge is delivered and necessary instructions are given
What Is the Price of a Dental Bridge?
Dental bridge costs vary depending on a number of variables:
- The chance that one or more of the nearby teeth will require additional treatments (like fillings or root canals).
- Your dental insurance’s coverage options.
- The kind of material the bridge is made of.
There are a number of factors that can affect bridge longevity; however they often last for 10 to 20 years.
